PAC PAGES - School and site Plans of Mount Benson SchoolPending ExpansionAs many know, Mount Benson school currently has an operating capacity of 187 for grades 1-7. Up until 2005 Mount Benson school was operating over capacity, sometimes with over 150 extra students. In 2000/2001 the Ministry of Educcation approved a 100 student expansion, which would bring the school capacity upto almost 300 plus kindergarten. Due to declining enrolment and delays in devlopment around our catchment, the expansion has been put on hold until our enrollment warrants the expansion. Unless there is a housing downturn, with the construction of Lantzville foothillls, and several other closer projects, the school could be over capacity by 2011, with our expansion needed by 2015. PlaygroundMount Benson playground is currently a collection of equipment supplied over the years. Some of it was made by the original PTA, and is still highly functional, although in need of paint. Other, newer, equipment is starting to fail, and needs maintenance and or replacing. The playground is need of some TLC. The PAC has saved some money, and is applying for grants for more. In 2008 the PAC will be sending out forms asking parents (and children) what change they would like to see on the playground. Once we have a priority list we will work with the school district and the parks board (if heritage fields are affected) to find out what is possible, and to come up with a preliminary plan. Park / HistorySome parents are working with the Wellington Community Association as part of the Wellington Action Committee to improve the Fields. The plan is to install a proper sign, name the fields, install history plaques, and dedicate the fields. The school district has been invited to participate and they may want to put one of the plaques in front of the main school, instead of on the top field (school history plaque, oldest school site still operating, etc, etc.) Links |
